On the day it celebrates its 100th anniversary (though the company wasn't given its current name until 1910), Audi has revealed the prices and specifications of the A5 Sportback, which is available to order now and officially goes on sale in the UK in October.
The five-door Sportback is longer than the three-door A5 Coupé and has more room for passengers and their luggage. Its cargo volume is 480 litres with the rear seats in place and 980 litres when they're folded down, compared with 455 and 829 litres for the Coupé.
From launch there will be a choice of four engines - in order of power output, a 168bhp 2.0 TDI turbo diesel, which comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and a start-stop system, and a 208bhp 2.0 TFSI turbo petrol, a 237bhp 3.0 TDI and a 261bhp naturally-aspirated 3.2 FSI V6, all of which have seven-speed S tronic semi-automatic transmission as standard.
The 2.0 TFSI and 3.2 FSI models use Audi's quattro four-wheel drive system, while the others are front-wheel drive. More quattro models will be introduced during 2009, and the range of available engines will be expanded.
Cars with the standard trim level get the two-litre engines, but all four units are available in the SE and S line specifications. Prices start at £25,440 for the standard 2.0 TDI and extend to £36,220 for the 3.0 TDI S line.
